Community Involvement, Making a difference
in a child’s life
Through the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses,
the Children’s Medical Center thrives today as a distinctive,
healing, caring institution built by and for our community. Community
support and funding have contributed to the following programs
or services, which may have otherwise not been possible:
PICU Renovation: $1 million gift from Food Lion and gifts
from The Capital District Kiwanis Foundation (click images to

Books at the Braves: Braves fans donated a new
children’s book at the gate to receive free general admission
to the game. Over 300 books were collected and donated to the
Children’s Medical Center. Diamond Duck even made bedside
appearances to visit children and deliver books.
Children’s Pavilion Renovation: Children’s
Miracle Network, Tuckahoe Kiwanis Club volunteers, Home Depot,
Onyx Industrial Services, GreatScapes and More.

Child Life Department: Educational and fun supplies
donated by various community groups
Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic Renovation:
ASK, The Association for the Support of Children with
Cancer, has raised over $400,000 to create a unique child-friendly
clinic environment.
Doll Project: The Commonwealth Woman’s
Club makes dolls for the Children’s Medical Center and for
medical missions performed abroad. The Club even makes personalized
dolls with removable hair and portocaths for hematology and oncology
patients.

Richmond Renegades Teddy Bear Toss: Over 800
teddy bears were collected at a single game for patients at the
Children’s Medical Center.

Through the support of our many generous volunteers and donors,
the Children’s Medical Center will continue to provide compassionate
healthcare, as we further develop our pediatric education program,
research and clinical care units. The opportunities are endless
to put your willing hands, talents or just your good intentions
to work at the Children’s Medical Center. For more information
on volunteering or gift giving please contact Shira Cantor, public
relations coordinator at (804) 828-7035 or scantor@vcu.edu.
