Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities: A Collaborative Response

Overview

The Abuse and Neglect of Children with Disabilities Training Project began in 1997 with federal funding to develop an interdisciplinary curriculum for educators, child protection workers, law enforcement officers, and parents of children with disabilities. Since 2000, the 2-day training has been offered in a number of localities throughout Virginia with the sponsorship of a collaborative group including VISSTA (Virginia Institute for Social Services Training Activities), the Virginia Department of Education, local school divisions, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, and the Partnership for People with Disabilities.

The training will be offered through the following local school divisions during the 2004-2005 year. Dates and other information will be posted under Upcoming Events and Training when it becomes available.

  • Allegheny County
  • Gloucester County
  • Lunenburg County
  • Washington County
