Using Assistive Technology to Promote Children's Participation

This session will provide an overview of assistive technology strategies that provide the means to promote, enhance, enable, successful participation of infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families. It is designed for early intervention providers in Virginia.
Outcomes of Webinar
- Acquire an overview about use of adaptation and Assistive Technology interventions to promote children's participation and learning at home and in group settings such as child care programs
- Use the adapatation hierarchy to generate ideas for various types of adaptations/AT
- Learn about resources and sources of adaptation/AT ideas to use with children including use of visual supports
- Become familiar with Tots-n-Tech and how to use T-n-T resources.
Philippa Campbell, Ph.D. (presenter) is a professor and director of Child and Family Studies Research Programs at Thomas Jefferson University. Her research interests include families and their infants and young children and professional development for early intervention, preschool, and child care providers. Dr. Campbell has worked with EI providers, agencies, and states across the country to help support the use of adaptations and Assistive Technology (AT) as interventions to help infants and young children participate successfully in activities and routines at home, school, and in the community.
Deana Buck (facilitator) is the Project Director for the Integrated Training Collaborative at the Partnership for People with Disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University. She administers two contracts related to Virginia's Comprehensive System of Personnel Development (CSPD).
Participation Requirements
- A PDF file containing the slides used as part of this webinar will be emailed to you in ADVANCE of the webinar. This will be used as backup in the event there is a problem with the internet connection. Print the PDF in advance of the webinar.
