Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (Va-LEND)
Overview
This advanced level training and leadership development program targets
health professionals in 14 disciplines. The goals include the development
of advanced clinical skills and leadership abilities in childhood neurodevelopmental
disabilities. The program is a collaboration among the Partnership for
People with Disabilities, the VCU School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics,
and the Virginia Department of Health, Title V Program. (Funded by the
U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Maternal and Child Health
Bureau.)
Major Activities
- Implementation and evaluation of a 12 credit competency-based curriculum
for health professionals and special educators
- Evaluation and enhancement of a family mentorship experience
- Recruitment of advanced graduate students and professionals to be
VA-LEND trainees and fellows
- Coordination of training activities related to childhood neurodevelopmental
disabilities with the VCU School of Medicine, and the Virginia Department
of Health, Title V Program
- Implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary clinics at a local
public health center, a community-based human service agency, and a
university -based clinic
