Overview
As of July 1, 2000, all hospitals in Virginia with newborn nurseries or with neonatal intensive care services are required to screen the hearing of all newborns prior to discharge and toreport to the Virginia Department of Health. The Partnership for People with Disabilities' role is to coordinate the effort to inform hospitals, physicians, audiologists, and early intervention professionals about Virginia's Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (Virginia EHDI) Program.

Major Activities

  • Develop training materials for target audiences (hospitals, audiologists,
    and primary care providers)
  • Disseminate materials using a variety of strategies
    (e.g., Internet, direct mailing)
  • Promote the availability of training materials
  • Provide ongoing training opportunities for target audiences to ensure understanding of unique roles and responsibilities and EHDI system implementation
