Evaluation Specialist

Overview

This is a full-time, grant-funded, collateral faculty position, with benefits, with the Partnership for People with Disabilities (Partnership), a university center for excellence in developmental disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University. This individual has responsibility for helping to ensure the sound evaluation of the Partnership's on-going and anticipated projects and for conducting evaluations of several projects. The position carries excellent state benefits. The proposed start date is on or around January 25, 2005.

Description of Responsibilities

  • Develop evaluation plans for funding proposals and prepare applications for approval from VCU's Institutional Review Board.
  • Implement evaluation plans for several existing projects including: developing instrumentation; collecting quantitative and qualitative data through multiple methods; and managing, analyzing, and reporting evaluation data.
  • Assist Partnership staff in integrating evaluation into program management, implementation, and data-based decision-making.
  • Provide resources and technical assistance in evaluation to Partnership program teams.
  • Write evaluation reports, scholarly manuscripts for publication, and presentations.
  • Provide support to the organization through participation in professional development activities, staff meetings, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in human services field related to disabilities required.
  • Experience in designing and implementing program evaluations required, with specific experience in working in the disability field strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in software applications, including quantitative and qualitative data analysis, database design and management, and standard office tools, required.
  • Experience in securing external funding strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience working within teams strongly preferred.

Research Specialist

Overview

This is a full-time, grant-funded, collateral faculty position, with benefits, with the Partnership for People with Disabilities, a university center for excellence in developmental disabilities at Virginia Commonwealth University. This individual has primary responsibility for developing and maintaining a clear research agenda for the Partnership. The proposed start date is on or around January 25, 2005.

Description of Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a plan for the Partnership for People with Disabilities for interdisciplinary research in evidence based practices for supporting young children, youth, and adults with disabilities.
  • Serve as lead staff to develop proposals to fund interdisciplinary research using group, single subject, correlational, and qualitative designs.
  • Participate on projects that conduct on-going research.
  • Collaborate in the analysis of research data.
  • Assist staff in the design and implementation of research activities related to project work.
  • Collaborate with other researchers within VCU and externally.
  • Write reports and scholarly manuscripts for publication, and conduct presentations.
  • Assist others with scholarly publications.
  • Provide support to the organization by participating in professional development activities, staff meetings, annual performance reviews, etc.
  • Serve as a member of one program team and offer consultation to others.
  • Serve as lecturer in Partnership-sponsored university courses and training.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in human services field related to disabilities required (ABD may be considered).
  • Experience in designing and conducting applied research in the disabilities arena required, including skills in appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodologies and software applications.
  • Experience delivering scholarly, research-relevant presentations required, and record of scholarly publications preferred.
  • Experience in securing external funding strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Experience working within teams strongly preferred.
