Including All Children
Project EXCEL

Overview
The project's purpose is to address the early learning needs of children with special needs served by child care centers and family child care home providers located in Blackwell, Fulton Hill, North Richmond, Laburnum and Harrowgate. Inclusive child care training and technical assistance will be provided to the child care centers and home care providers located in those neighborhoods.

Major Activities

  • Recruit, register and implement a two hour awareness-level training addressing the care of and inclusion of children with special needs for 275 child care professionals.
  • Evaluate the change in knowledge of the training participants as a result of the training through pre and post evaluations.
  • Provide on-site technical assistance visits to some programs serving children with disabilities to support their efforts to provide quality inclusive care.
  • Evaluate the change in level of inclusive care as a result of the technical assistance by conducting an initial inclusive care assessment, a written action plan with progress updates and a final assessment.
