Collaborative Approach to Service Coordination Training in Virginia

Overview
This project is funded through a contract from the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services to develop and implement an integrated training process in Virginia's early intervention system. Program activities include curriculum, conducting training, and convening a conference for early intervention providors.

Major Activities

• Work with and through the Personal Development Training Committee (PDTC) of the Interagency Coordinating Council (VICC) to expand the consortium to include experts in content areas, additional faculty from institutions of higher education, parents, direct service providors, and others as appropriate
• Using the consortium, review existing competencies and corresponding materials and curricula in service coordination, cultural diversity, and the role of the early intervention assistant
• Review and update materials and curricula for the targeted content areas
• In collaboration with the consortium, identify content to be adapted to web-based format
• Through the consortium, provide support to the Part C staff in delivering the training content
• In collaboration with the consortium, the PDTC, state agencies, and the Part C staff, plan and coordinate a statewide conference for early intervention personnel
• Work with the VICC, and others at state, regional, and local levels to identify and coordinate training activities across state agencies to maximize learning
• Provide two additional training opportunities for service coordinators
• Provice process and outcome evaluation to all development and training activities
