Equipment and Software
Bone densitometry is provided at the MCV Campus downtown location, and at the Stony
Point Medical Center satellite offices.
Downtown MCV Campus location (directions):
Hologic 4500a
Spine, hip, forearm, whole body BMD and body composition, supine lateral spine,
vertebral morphometry, and region of interest scanning. Low density (pediatric)
software is available.
Harpenden Stadiometer
Sahara heel ultrasound is used for community education and awareness

Spine, hip, forearm, and region of interest scanning. Low density (pediatric) software

Harpenden Stadiometer
Full time staffing for bone densitometry and clinical research
Daily calibration by scanning a standard Hologic spine phantom.
Both sites have experience in working with central Quality Assurance sites which
provide for scanning of gold standard phantoms and cross-calibration among
instruments at multiple centers.
All bone density technologists are licensed as Radiology Technologists, Limited,
under the regulations of the Virginia Board of Medicine. In addition, our
technologists have been qualified by manufacturer training and are certified by
the International Society for Clinical Densitometry.
