ROCK Training Information

There is a higher incidence of youth with educational disabilities in the juvenile justice system than in the general population. These youth often have accompanying emotional or mental disabilities as well. The behavior of youth with disabilities is often misinterpreted as a behavioral problem rather than a function of his or her specific disability. Personnel who have a good understanding of the characteristics of educational and emotional or mental disabilities will be better able to assist youth in meeting disciplinary goals and expectations for successful rehabilitation. The goal of this training is to increase the knowledge and skills of participants to work effectively with youth who have learning, emotional and/or mental disabilities and are in the community juvenile justice system.

Learn About
  • Types of disabilities and how they affect learning
  • How learning disabilities can affect behavior and every other aspect of a youth's life
  • How to identify youth with emotional and/or mental disabilities
  • Medications often prescribed for youth with educational, emotional and mental disabilities
Format

Didactic, experiential, and case study modalities are used.

Target Audience
