It is important that you plan your arrival to allow several days to find housing before the orientation and registration sessions. There are several choices for housing.
Off-campus rooms and apartments are available at varying prices, within walking and biking distance from the university. These are limited and are usually taken very quickly.
Many international students are willing to share a two-bedroom apartment to reduce the cost of monthly rental expenses. Typically it is easier to wait until you arrive in Richmond to lease an apartment. Students who arrive early often have more selection and time to set up their apartments before classes begin.
The estimated cost for a one-bedroom, unfurnished apartment is $500-750 a month. Two bedroom and larger unfurnished apartment with one or more roommates can estimate for $695-1,000 per month.
Furnished rooms range from $250-350 a month and do not include meals.
Please note that most rooms and apartments require security deposits and payment of the first and last month’s rent in advance, which will add an additional $550-800 in cost.
Also keep in mind that most off-campus housing will require a lease to begin the first day of the month, and is a binding contract for a 12-month period. Visit the Off-campus housing information for information about Richmond rental companies and contact information.
Craigslist is one of the best ways to find rooms, apartments and roommates to share a place.
