On Nov. 7, 2007, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published the final revised version of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form [PDF]. Starting Dec. 26, 2007, DHS is requiring that the new version of the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form be completed for all new employees and any employment updates for current employees. There is no need to update the I-9 for current employees with no changes. For more information visit the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Web site.

Starting Jan. 1, 2008, the nonimmigrant visa application fee will increase from $100 to $131. This fee increase is due to increased costs of fingerprint checks by the FBI. Anyone who paid the $100 visa fee before January 1, and has an interview appointment before January 31, does not have to pay the difference. However, anyone who has paid the fee already but has an appointment after January 31, will be required to pay the $31 difference before they will be interviewed. For more information visit the Department of State Web site.
