TN employees

The TN visa permits the activities normally associated with the title or appointment as stated in the appointment letter. Only professions listed in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) qualify. Examples of such professions are: faculty, research associates and certain allied health professions. TN status is available only to Canadian or Mexican citizens — not immigrants of these countries. Note: There are special requirements for the issuance of a TN visa for Mexican citizens. Reimbursements, honoraria or per diem payments for guest lectures, etc. may be allowed on this visa if stated in the original appointment letter used to obtain the visa.

Dependents of TNs may be admitted in TD status. They are not permitted to work, however.

For more information see the Department of State Web site.
