Mandatory insurance for international students

All international students are required to have accident and sickness insurance which covers the cost of hospitalization during their stay in the United States. Hospital costs here can be quite expensive and you need to have insurance to help with these expenses. Brochures and applications for the plan endorsed by the Office of International Education and the University Student Health Services will be available at the new student orientation and in the office of the international student adviser. Please do not purchase any health and accident insurance plan from outside the U.S. Most likely, these policies are not acceptable at American hospitals or by U.S. physicians. The cost of medical insurance has been figured into the cost of attending VCU for one year, therefore it is expected that you will be able to sign up for medical insurance at the new student orientation.

(Visitors in J-1 status will find more information regarding insurance by clicking here.)

Health immunization record

You are required to submit an official English copy of your immunization record to University Student Health Services upon your arrival. Please try to take care of this matter before you leave your country, and contact University Student Health Services if you have any questions.
