Airport pick-up – If requested at least two weeks in
advance, ELP students will be met at the Richmond airport
and taken to pre-arranged housing or a hotel close to the
VCU campus. An airport pick-up request form will be sent with
the acceptance letter.
Banking – ELP students will be assisted in opening
a U.S. bank account by an ELP student services coordinator.
Health insurance – Because medical costs in the United
States are expensive, medical insurance is required for all
international students on J-1 or F-1 visas. ELP students will
be helped in the purchase of health insurance upon their arrival.
(See fee section
for estimated cost.) ELP students also are required to participate
in the VCU health services plan that gives access to the VCU
Student Health Clinic.
Housing – Student services coordinators help ELP students
find housing either on or off campus. University housing is
available and recommended for new students. The program has
reserved a limited number of rooms in a convenient air-conditioned
residence hall apartment for international students. Two students
share each bedroom and a bathroom. Meal plans are available
in the university dining facilities, if desired. Visit
VCU
Residential Life and Housing for more information.
Students may choose to live off-campus. Visit the VCU
Off-Campus Housing Office for additional information,
including links to Apartment
complexes and management companies.
