Meet the Staff

The English Language Program (ELP) provides English language support to students who are academically admissible to VCU but in need of improved English skills and proficiency, thus enabling them to be more competitive in a classroom environment. The ELP also serves individuals who want to improve their English language skills for career and personal reasons.

The VCU English Language Program offers quality language classes:

• Taught by professionally trained language teachers with Master’s degrees who have native fluency in English.

• That are small, with normally 16 students or fewer per class.

• Intensive to improve English language skills as quickly as possible.

• Provide access to a language learning lab to improve English outside the classroom.

• Concentrate on academic English and study skills so that students can be successful in academic and career pursuits.

• May allow study in English language and academic classes at the same time depending on the student’s English language proficiency and the number of hours of English language study enrolled in per week.

• Can be designed to meet the short-term specific language needs of small businesses, corporations and other special groups.
