WMNS 391 004 Special Topics: Women’s Worlds Study Abroad II – 3 credits

Course description: The purpose of the Women’s Studies Study Abroad Program is to provide students with an international experience that focuses on global feminism and the lives of women around the world. Because Women’s Worlds 2008 is taking place in Spain and we will travel to Morocco, the program this year will give particular attention to women in Europe but will not exclude women in other parts of the globe. You can expect to find women from many nations in attendance at Women’s Worlds 2008 and to return home with a new appreciation of the achievements and issues of importance that bind us together but also separate us based on economic, cultural, political and religious conditions in our home country. You will also be treated to plenary speeches from some of the foremost feminist thinkers and activists in the world. The conference theme this year is “Equality: No Utopia” and will focus on three concepts: “New Frontiers, Dares and Advancements,” in order to address a wide range of themes, issues and disciplines that ought to be taken into account for a better understanding of the present world. Women’s Worlds 2008 will set the ground for a multifaceted and constructive analysis and will provide an optimistic outlook on all the issues that affect women and have to do with feminist enterprises today. Perhaps most important, you should enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience! For complete conference information see www.mmww.org.
