Q: Can I use my scholarship or financial aid to study
abroad?
A: Yes. Any money you receive from VCU or for educational
purposes at VCU can be used to study abroad.
Q: How far in advance do I have to plan my study
abroad?
A: For a semester or year study abroad program, plan at least
six months in advance. For a summer program, plan at least
three months in advance. ISEP programs are on rolling admissions.
For best placement options, apply in January for the following
fall and in August for spring programs.
Q: Will my credits transfer to VCU?
A: Yes. However, you must get your program approved before
you apply. Come to the Education Abroad Office (916 W.
Franklin St., Room 203) to pick up the proper forms.
Q: What are my study abroad options?
A: You can go for a summer, semester or full year. You may
study course work to fulfill requirements in your major or
minor, or to complete some of your general education requirements.
You may choose a VCU summer program, participate through the International
Student Exchange Program or go on any other approved program
independent of these two options.
Q: What are the requirements to study abroad?
A: To participate in a VCU Summer Study Abroad program, you
must be in good standing with the university. For ISEP programs
you must have a minimum 2.75 GPA, and to study a foreign language
you must have completed the equivalent of four semesters
in that language. Each independent program has its own requirements;
check with the sponsoring organization for details.
Q: To whom do I talk if I want to study abroad?
A: Call (804) 828-STUA (7882) to make an appointment with an adviser. You may also attend the general information sessions held every Monday and Tuesday at noon in the Commons Theatre.
Q: Who gets my passport and visa?
A: You do! Your program will assist you in acquiring a visa,
but you must get the passport on your own.
