MCV Fire Emergency Procedures
Patient Care Areas Dr. Red Procedures
R A C E R.
* Remove
anyone in immediate danger. If the fire is in a patient's room, remove
the patient and CLOSE THE DOOR TO THAT ROOM.
* Activate the alarm by pulling the nearest fire alarm pull station. Call the emergency number, *50, give any information that you have.
* Close all doors. Have patients and visitors remain in their rooms and close the doors.Each patient room is equipped with a fire rated door and is designed to protect the patient in the room.
* Extinguish the fire if possible.Use a portable fire extinguisher, if the fire is small and has not spread beyond the point where it started.
* Relocate patients to a safe area when instructed to by a Patient Representative or a Fireman on the scene.
* Nursing personnel must account for patients on the floor and identify how they will be relocated. Relocate patients in rooms next to the fire to another room. If the area is full of smoke, move patients behind a smoke barrier. Move patients down the stairs only when the entire floor is filled with smoke. MCVH Administration will provide relocation sites once they arrive.
* Move ambulatory patients first, then patients on stretchers and wheelchairs.
* If you must move patients by the elevator, Hospital Administration and Richmond Bureau of Fire will let you know which elevators to use.
* Refer to the MCVH/MCVAP Emergency Preparedness Plan for a full evacuation plan.
