Virginia Commonwealth University has developed a laser safety program to insure the safe use of lasers in research and instructional laboratories.  This safety program has been established to implement the guidelines contained in the national standard for the safe use of lasers, specifically ANSI Z136.1-1993 (American National Standard for the Safe Use of Lasers).  ANSI Z136.1-1993 is recognized as a minimun standard for laser safety.
