Procedure to Obtain Approval to Use Radioactive Materials or Radiation-Producing Devices for Non-Human Use

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or M.D. degree. Before radioactive materials or radiation-producing devices may be employed for non-human use, the following procedures must be performed:
 

  • Obtain proper authorization form(s) from the Radiation Safety web site (see "Forms").

  • Review appropriate regulations as required on application forms (see "Regulations").

  •  
  • Type, sign and date all form(s).  For new uses of radioactive material, a Personnel Profile Form (see "Forms") must also be completed.  Refer to "Guidelines for Training and/or Experience for Non-Human Use Investigators".

  •  
  • Return the completed form(s) to the Radiation Safety Section for review.  The investigator will be notified of their approval within 10 working days, depending on the type and complexity of the requested authorization.
