MCVH Dr. Red Drills
VCU's Office of Environmental Health and Safety conducts quarterly Dr. Red drills on each shift in Hospital buildings and clinics in accordance with the Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. Employees are expected to perform the R.A.C.E.R. procedures in fire emergencies and drills. Fire Safety personnel will check fire systems, evaluate employees performance and answer questions during the drill. Dr. Red drills in Main and North Hospital last between 2 and 4 minutes from beginning to end.
All other hospital buildings and clinics must evacuated in the event of an alarm. When you hear the fire alarm, close all doors in your area as you evacuate and proceed to the nearest exit. Drills in these buildings usually last between 5 and 8 minutes.
If you have any questions about your responsibilities during a fire emergency, or would like to request evacuation training for your staff you may call OEHS at 828-0040.
