Emergency Response

VCU's Office of Environmental Health and Safety provides response to all VCU and MCVH fire emergencies.  This response extends to after hours, weekends and holidays.  Fire Safety provides on scene coordination between the Physical Plant Control Center and the Richmond Bureau of Fire.  Following each emergency we ensure that all fire protection and alarm equipment is in proper working order, and that any hazardous condition has been abated.  Fire Safety completes and maintains a standardized incident report to summarize the causes and conditions under which the emergency occurred.  The vast majority of emergency response calls are not due to actual fires.  Most are for system problems, accidental activation or incomplete information reported to the control center.
