Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Material safety data sheets will be readily accessible to employees during all work shifts. Operating units within the university (e.g., Facilities Management, research laboratories, clinics, etc.) are required to maintain both a comprehensive chemical inventory and an MSDS for each hazardous chemical contained in the inventory. Operating units should maintain copies of any MSDS provided with materials they order and should contact the manufacturer to obtain MSDS for materials lacking an MSDS. Below is a list containing manufacturer sites where MSDS are available for a host of chemicals common in university laboratories. Please contact the Chemical and Biological Safety Section at 828-1392 for assistance if you cannot locate an appropriate MSDS and we will assist you. Although supervisors are responsible for providing health hazard information, employees should be encouraged to further review MSDS for any chemical substance for which they seek additional information. Personnel from the CBSS are available to assist employees with the information contained in MSDS. A discussion of each section of MSDS can be found at Oklahoma State's EHS web site.
