Moonlighting

Moonlighting is permitted for residents who have met the qualifications, have acquired full and independent licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and have appropriate liability insurance coverage. Moonlighters must comply with the ACGME and duty hour requirements.


Salaries and Financial Assistance

Residents in the program earn competitive salaries, in addition to stipends, book allowance and paid vacations, among other benefits listed on the Graduate Medical Education Web site.

2009-10 resident salaries:
PGY-1: $44,776
PGY-2: $46,026
PGY-3: $47,684
PGY-4: $48,581

Three weeks paid vacation per year.

(Other benefits including liability insurance, health insurance, on-call meals and one-month hospital-funded away rotation.)

Conference leave: PL3 residents may attend a national or regional conference of their choice.
Daycare: On-site daycare is accessible to residents with children up to age 5 (age 12 in summer) with convenient hours (6 a.m. - midnight) at a competitive cost.
Educational stipend: The stipend may be used to attend conferences or purchase books and other educational material.
  *   Med-peds program: PL-1 = $250, PL-2 = $250, PL-3 = $250, PL-4 = $250
