Medical/Pediatrics Residency Program

Mission and Educational Objectives

The mission of our Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Program is accomplished through integrated clinical and didactic training in the art and practice of internal medicine and pediatrics. The residents in our program are exposed to training from housestaff and faculty in the categorical and combined programs, as well as faculty with an active practice combining both internal medicine and pediatrics.

Our educational objectives include the following:
  •   To produce compassionate physicians capable of delivering high quality internal medicine and pediatric care to their patients
  •   To create a supportive learning environment which allows academic and personal growth
  •   To prepare our housestaff for careers in primary care or for advancement to subspecialty training or academic careers
  •   To prepare our housestaff for lifelong learning in the context of a rapidly changing healthcare environment

The training is accomplished through:
  •   a core schedule of lectures, which provide a comprehensive review of pediatrics and internal medicine
  •   a computer-based and self-paced reading and testing program to assist residents with written test taking in preparation for board exams
  •   a yearly board review course for both internal medicine and pediatrics
  •   a regular grand rounds schedule with optional specialty grand rounds during electives
  •   an evidenced-based medicine rotation and regular evidence-based medicine lectures
  •   a journal club series (internal medicine, pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics)
  •   a regular schedule of patient-based clinical conferences, providing direct interaction with faculty as well as teaching opportunities for residents

Training here, you will join an outstanding and enthusiastic group of house officers in a program designed with the educational needs of our residents in mind. We listen very carefully to the insights of our housestaff and our Combined Med-Peds residents are involved in all of the major committees of the departments including the Residency Steering Committee (reviews and approves all changes in residency curriculum) and the Intern Selection Committee. Monthly town meetings serve as a forum for residents to address any issues or problems that arise. We pay close attention to resident feedback and make changes directly in response to perceived needs. We encourage you to explore this web site and learn what our current residents have to say about the program.
