The VCU Faculty Mentoring initiative is designed to assist selected faculty in developing the means to enhance instruction through technology for their own classes and to extend their knowledge and skills to be able to serve as mentors for other faculty within and outside their unit. Faculty selected for participation receive laptop computers and special assistance from IDC staff in finding effective ways to use technology in their teaching. The program is based on the belief that the most effective use of instructional technology is discipline-based, that faculty learn best from other faculty, and that instructional development process should happen where the faculty member works best -- at home or the office.
