Thank you for your interest in the MCV Hospitals and Physicians of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Our program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This computer program enables all application materials to be transmitted via the Internet. The Dean's office at your medical school will assist you with the ERAS application process. Paper applications will not be accepted. They will be discarded.

Do not send anything via the U.S. Postal Service unless specifically requested!

Application requirements:

  • ERAS Common Application Form
  • Dean's Letter
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation (Please include at least one recommendation from an emergency physician)
  • Personal Statement
  • Medical Examination Scores (USLME, FLEX, etc.)
  • A photo is strongly encouraged (Helpful in refreshing memories for ranking purposes)

Your Dean's letter, transcript and letters of recommendation will be processed by the Dean's office at your medical school upon your authorization to release this information to our program.

Your USLME scores will be transmitted via the Internet by the National Board of Medical Examiners.

The deadline for application to our residency program is December 15. Applications transmitted after this date will not be considered.

Our hospital is a drug free environment. All individuals offered employment are required to successfully complete a preplacement drug screening as a condition of employment.

Please feel free to contact our Residency Coordinator at (804-828-4860 or emresprogram@mcvh-vcu.edu) or our Residency Director, Dr. Tim Evans (804-628-0392 or tcevans@hsc.vcu.edu) if you would like more information regarding our program, the hospital, or Richmond.
