Michael Abatazis
Dr. Abatazis obtained his M.D. degree at Emory University School of Medicine. He trained in an Emergency Medicine residency at LSU Health Science Center, New Orleans, LA. He completed a fellowship in Critical Care through University of Alabama Hospital, Birmingham, LA.
Taruna Aurora :: Co-Director, Clinical Decisions Unit

Dr. Aurora obtained her M.D. degree from the Christian Medical College in India and completed a combined Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
R. Wayne Barbee :: Assistant Director of Research
Dr. Barbee completed his M.S. degree in Physiology at the University of Florida and his PhD degree in Physiology at Louisiana State University. He has completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Hypertension Unit at Oschner Medical Institutions.
Matt Bartholomew :: Medical Director of Forensic Nursing
Dr. Bartholomew obtained his M.D. degree here at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and trained in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Johns Hopkins University.
Samuel Bartle:: Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dr. Bartle obtained his M.D. degree from the University of South Alabama. He completed a Pediatrics residency from the University of Tenessee and a Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship through the Universiy of Alabama/Children's Hospital of Alabama.
Terri Camp :: Clinical Resuscitation Fellow

Dr. Camp obtained her M.D. degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. She then went on to an Emergency Medicine residency here at VCU. She is trailblazing our newest fellowship in Clinical Resuscitation.
Greg Christiansen :: Director of Simulation, Department of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Christiansen obtained his D.O. degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to intern at the Hospital of Philadelphia. He completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center where he served as chief resident. Dr. Christiansen completed an M. Ed. degree here at VCU.
Francis Chuidian
Dr. Chuidian obtained his M.D. from University of the East Medical School, Philippines. He trained in Internal Medicine at University Hospital, New Jersey Medical School and in Emergency Medicine at Brooklyn Hospital/New York University Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY.

Dr. Clark completed his D.O. degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and trained in Emergency Medicine here at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University. He is Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at John Randolph Medical Center as well as Medical Director for several small professional and volunteer EMS crews in surrrounding suburbs.
Kirk Cumpston :: Medical Director, Virginia Poison Center

Dr. Cumpston was born in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes"....South St. Paul, Minnesota. In short order he was obtaining his D.O. degree from the University of Des Moines. He completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Illinois at Chichago and Medical Toxicology Fellowship was combined at the University of Illinois at Chicagoand Cook County Hospital. He was the Medical Director of the New Mexico Poison and Drug information center before joining us here at VCU.
Harinder Dhindsa :: EMS Coordinator/Aero-Medical Operational Medical Director

Dr. Dhindsa obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Public Health from George Washington University. He trained in an Emergency Medicine Residency and completed an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fellowship through Georgetown and George Washington University.
Dr. Dillon obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital/University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine.
David Evans :: Director of Ultrasound
Dr. Evans obtained his M.D. degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School(EVMS). He went on to complete his Emergency Medicine Residency at EVMS as well. After finishing a fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound he joined our faculty as our new Director of Ultrasound.
Timothy Evans :: Residency Director

Dr. Evans obtained his M.D. degree from New Jersey Medical School and completed an Emergency Medicine Residency at Allegheny General Hospital. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Feeser obtained her M.D. degree from George Washington University and completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Robin Foster :: Director, Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Dr. Foster recieved her M.D. degree and completed a Pediatrics residency at the Medical College of Virginia (Virgina Commonwealth University). She is fellowship trained in Pediatric Emergency Medicine from St. Christophers Hospital for Children.
Doug Franzen :: Assistant Residency Director, Director of Medical Education
Dr. Franzen obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Michigan. He trained in the Emergency Medicine residency here at the Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Franzen also completed an M. Ed. degree here at VCU. He was the recipient of the 2009 Irby-James Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching.
Michael Gonzales :: Vice-Chairman, Director of Clinical Operations
Dr. Gonzales obtained his M.D. degree at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center. He completed a Family Practice residency through the Naval Hospital in Florida and went on to an Emergency Medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He is board certified in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
Kyle Gunnerson :: Unit Director of the Cardiac Surgery ICU

Dr. Gunnerson obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Kansas and then trained in a combined Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine residency through Henry Ford Hospital. He completed a fellowship in a mulitdisciplinary Critical Care training program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Hogan obtained his M.D. degree at Georgetown University and trained in an Emergency Medicine residency at Allegheny General Hospital/Medical College of Pennsylvania. He completed a Critical Care fellowship the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center. He currently works both in the Emergency Department and the Surgical/Trauma ICU.
Michael Kurz :: Director of Emergent Cardiac Care
Operational Medical Director, Henrico County Division of Fire

Dr. Kurz obtained his M.D. degree and an M.S. in Health Evaluation Sciences through the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed an Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Chicago where he served as chief resident. He recently pioneered the the Emergent Cardiac Care fellowship here at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Steve Liner :: Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dr. Liner obtained his M.D. degree from the College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency in Pediatrics here at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Mayglothling obtained her M.D. degree from MCP Hahnemann SOM and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at NYU/Bellevue Hospital Center. She is fellowship trained in Trauma/Critical Care through R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She currently works both in the Emergency Department and the Surgical/Trauma ICU.


Dr. Morton obtained her M.D. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and trained in the Emergency Medicine residency here at Virginia Commonwealth University where she served as chief resident.

Dr. Murphy obtained his M.D. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and trained in the Emergency Medicine residency here at Virginia Commonwealth University where he served as chief resident.
Joseph P. Ornato :: Department Chairman, Medical Director of Richmond Ambulance Authority

Dr. Ornato obtained his M.D. degree at Boston University. He trained in Internal Medicine at Mt. Sinai Hospital and went on to a Cardiology fellowship at Cornell University. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Emergency Medicine.

Chan Park :: Emergency Medicine Residency Director-McGuire VA Medical Center

Dr. Park obtained his M.D. at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and has served in the US Navy as a Naval Medical Officer. Currently, he is the site Emergency Medicine Residency program director at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Director of VA Medical Simulations.

Shawna Perry :: Director for Patient Safety System Engineering
Dr. Perry obained her M.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She completed a preliminary year in Internal Medicine, 3 year residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Florida Health Science Center, Jacksonville, Florida and a fellowship in ED administration with Emergency Physicians Inc (EPI).
Ed Read :: Emergency Medicine, McGuire VAMC

Dr. Read trained in the US Navy in Family Medicine. After the Navy, he began practice of full-time Emergency Medicine at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, Pennsylvania. In 2003 he joined the VCU Department of Emergency Medicine where he practiced clinically until 2009. He then began clinical work at McGuire VA Medical Center Emergency Department. Dr. Read maintains board certification in both Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine.

Renee Reid :: Quality Improvement Director
Dr. Reid obtained her M.D. degree at Case Western Reserve University and completed an Emergency Medicine residency through Georgetown and George Washington Universities.
Penny Reynolds

Dr. Reynolds obtained an M.Sc in Zoology from the University of Guelph, M.S in Biostatistics and PhD in Biophysical Ecology with Statistics minor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine Research with the

Rutherfoord Rose :: Director, Virginia Poison Center
Dr. Rose obtained his PharmD from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He completed a fellowship in Clinical Toxicology at the Maryland Poison Center/University of Maryland and is board certified in Toxicology.
Sue Sreedhar :: Medical Director of Pediatric Palliative Care

Dr. Sreedhar obtained her M.D. degree at Madurai University, India. She trained in Pediatrics at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore and went on to do a Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, CA.
Pawan Suri :: EM-IM Residency Director; Chair, Division of Observation Medicine

Dr. Suri completed an internship at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and then a combined EM/IM Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was practicticing faculty at the University of Michigan prior to joining us here at VCU. He is pioneering our new EM/IM program, which can be viewed at: Combined Internal Medicine-Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
Matt Tymowski

Dr. Tymowski obtained his M.D. degree at Akademia Medyczna K. Marcinkowskiego. He completed his Emergency Medicine here at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia Hospitals.
Kevin Ward :: Director of Research

Dr. Ward received his M.D. degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and trained in Emergency Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He competed an Emergency Medicine Research fellowship at Ohio State University.

 

Brandon Wills :: Medical Toxicology Fellowship Director; Associate Director, Virginia Poison Center

Dr. Wills obtained his D.O. degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He completed an Emergency Medicine residency at Akron General Medical Center and Medical Toxicology fellowship at the Toxikon Consortium of Cook County, Chicago, IL.  After serving on active duty in the Army, he joined the VCU faculty and is the director of our new Medical Toxicology fellowship.

Christopher Woleben :: Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dr. Woleben obtained his M.D. degree and completed a Pediatrics residency here at the Virginia Commwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.

Allen Yee :: Operational Medical Director, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS
Dr. Yee obtained his M.D. degree from the Health Sciences Center at Stonybrook, New York. He completed an Emergency Medicine residency through State University at Buffalo, New York.

Frank L. Zwemer, Jr. :: Associate Chair, Section Chief, Emergency Medicine, McGuire VAMC

Dr. Zwemer obtained his MD degree from the University of Southern California. He trained in Internal Medicine at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospitalin Cooperstown, NY, and began his Emergency Medicine career at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, later Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. For 10 years, he was the Vice-Chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
