Originally known as the Berkeley Apartments, this building was
renamed Scherer Hall in honor of the late Rev. John J. Scherer Jr., pastor
of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church. Scherer served as first
president of the RPI Foundation from 1917 until his death in 1956 and
was co-founder of the Richmond School of Social Work and Public Health.
