
Possible problem with your Bookmark or Shortcut to Blackboard
Internet Browser favorites (bookmarks) or Desktop Shortcuts that are used to
access the Blackboard from your system may be invalid, if they were created
before June 9th, 2006.
After the recent Blackboard system upgrade (June 9th, 2006), you may be taken to
a page with the message "Browser Cookies Disabled".
This may be due to your shortcut now pointing to an invalid URL. Before changing
any browser settings to correct the problem, any shortcuts, bookmarks, or
favorites may need to be deleted and re-created to access a valid blackboard
URL.
Steps for creating a new shortcut to blackboard (Windows XP desktop):
1) Right-click on the Desktop.
2) From the menu, select New -> Shortcut.
3) Type in http://blackboard.vcu.edu . Click Next.
4) Name the shortcut and click Finish.
Editing a Favorite in Internet Explorer 6:
1) Click Favorites from the menu bar at the top of the Browser window.
2) Select "Organize Favorites" from the menu.
3) Right-click on your current blackboard link in the right pane.
4) Select Properties from the menu.
5) Verify that you are now in Web Document tab of the Properties form
6) Delete the text currently in the URL text box.
7) Type http://blackboard.vcu.edu in the URL text box.
8) Click OK to exit and commit the changes.
9) Click Close on the Organize Favorites box.
Editing a Bookmark in Mozilla Firefox 1.5.x:
1) Click Bookmarks from the menu bar at the top of the Browser window.
2) Select "Manage Bookmarks" from the menu.
3) In the left pane of the Bookmarks Manager, browse to the Blackboard bookmark.
4) Click to select the bookmark in the right pane.
5) Click the Properties button on the Toolbar.
6) Change the "Location" to http://blackboard.vcu.edu.
7) Click OK and close the Bookmarks Manager.
Editing a Bookmark in Safari 2.0.x:
1) Click Bookmarks from the menu bar at the top of the Browser window.
2) In the left pane (Collections), select Bookmarks Bar.
3) Browse to the Blackboard bookmark in the Right pane.
4) Click in the Address field to enter Edit mode, the URL should highlight.
5) Change to http://blackboard.vcu.edu and press the Return key.
6) Close the Bookmarks window or click Back to return to the previous page.
