Curriculum
The curriculum combines experiential practice, professional mentoring
and academic study, including instruction in the core areas of business
(for scientists) and the basics of the life sciences (for business people),
as well as specialized courses in technology assessment and business
plan development for emerging bioscience companies.
Two integrated courses form the core of the curriculum:
- Commercial Potential Assessment
This course details the concepts, best practices, and skills needed
to assess the commercial potential of a novel life science technology.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able
to determine a probable best strategy for extracting commercial value
from a bioscience technology.
- Business Plan Development
This course instructs students on the elements needed to develop an
effective bioscience business plan. Using the concepts, best practices,
and skills taught in this course, students produce a complete business
plan.
The prerequisite to Commercial Potential Assessment
is Life Sciences 501, for those with a business background, Business
Primer 501, for those with a scientific background or equivalent acadmeic
and/
or work expereince.
