In 1995, MCV Hospitals
at Virginia Commonwealth University,
recognizing the growing need for
less painful surgical approaches that were easier on the
patient and allowed earlier return to full activities, opened
the Minimally
Invasive Surgery Center.
Dedicated
to patient care, education, and research,
the Surgery Center provides superior
care in a comfortable, convenient setting.

through a cross-fertilization of ideas
among physicians, nurses, hospital
administrators and engineers.
The doctors at the
Surgery Center, who are among the best
in the nation, are on the forefront
of minimally invasive surgery and have
pioneered and developed numerous techniques
and procedures. The long list of breakthroughs
at the Surgery Center includes pioneering
outpatient gallbladder surgery (95%
of patients return home from the recovery
room).
