Faculty Position in Experimental Condensed Matter/Nanoscience

As part of an expansion effort, the Department of Physics at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin August 16, 2009 (contingent on funding). Appointment will be considered at both the junior and senior level. We seek an experimentalist with an interdisciplinary orientation to complement and expand the department's expertise in condensed matter physics and nanoscience (see www.has.vcu.edu/phy/). Research areas of particular interest include atomic clusters, cluster-assembled materials, nanostructures, semiconductor defects and surfaces/interfaces, spintronic materials, hydrogen storage, biophysics, and biomaterials. The department offers an M.S. degree in Physics, a Ph.D. in Chemical Physics in collaboration with the department of Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics in collaboration with the departments of Radiology and Radiation Oncology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related discipline and at least two years of postdoctoral experience. Candidates will be expected to teach physics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and conduct a vigorous research program.
