Application and Interview Process
The Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery of Virginia Commonwealth University accepts 2 applicants per year. All applicants must register with the National Resident Matching Program ( http://www.nrmp.org/ ) and apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service ( http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/ ). (The deadline for registration with the NRMP is December 1st. The application process through ERAS begins in July. The deadline for receipt of application materials from ERAS is November 1.)
Once all applications have been received, they are reviewed in detail, and offers for interviews tendered. Applicants coming for interviews will be given assistance, and where possible, reduced rates, for lodging at local hotels. The night before the interview date a dinner at a local restaurant will be held to allow the applicants to meet the current residents in an informal setting. The interview day will begin with continental breakfast, during which a brief overview of the department, its faculty, the residency program, and the Richmond area will be given. A tour of the VCU Medical Center campus will be led by several of the residents. The interviews themselves will be one-on-one meetings between the applicant and departmental faculty and residents. The day will conclude in the early afternoon, after lunch.
