Over 50% of the problems that an otolaryngologist encounters are probably caused, either directly or indirectly, by allergy. Chronic nasal congestion and post-nasal drip, seasonal or constant, is often allergic and may be complicated by chronic sinus and middle ear disease. Hearing loss, dizziness, headaches, weeping ear canals, and chronic sore throats may all be due to allergy.
The VCUHS Department of Otolaryngology includes complete allergy evaluation and treatment services, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Heller, a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Whether your allergies are due to inhalants in the environment, foods you are eating, or chemicals you are sensitive to, our office is now uniquely equipped to evaluate all of these, and to treat them completely, whether that mean medicine, allergy shots, or, rarely surgery.
