EVAN R. REITER, MD

Dr. Reiter completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University. After completing a one-year National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Reiter entered the Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology, from which he received his M.D. degree cum laude in 1993. Dr. Reiter completed his internship year in general surgery at the New England Deaconess Hospital, followed by his residency at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary - Harvard Training Program in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Reiter joined the faculty of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery of Virginia Commonwealth University as Assistant Professor in 1998, and earned the rank of Associate Professor in 2004. He also serves in the Division of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond.

Dr. Reiter has served as Residency Program Director for the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery since 2002. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Association for Chemoreception Senses, American Rhinologic Society, Society of University Otolaryngologists, Richmond Academy of Medicine, Medical Society of Virginia and the Board of Directors of the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He is currently a fellowship candidate of the Triological Society.

His clinical and research interests include obstructive sleep apnea, head and neck oncology, disorders of smell and taste, and sinus and nasal disease. He is actively involved in the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center Head and Neck Tumor Clinic and Smell and Taste Center. Dr. Reiter Has published scientific reports and book chapters on smell and taste disorders and the treatment of sleep disordered breathing.
