M. Suzanne Hasenstab, Ph.D., FAAA

Dr. Suzanne Hasenstab is a native of Cleveland, Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. She completed her undergraduate (child development), Master's (audiology) and doctoral studies (developmental psychology) at Kent State University. In additional she also served as Academic Instructor, Assistant Professor and later, Visiting Professor at that institution. Dr. Hasenstab completed tenure at the University of Virginia first as Assistant Professor than as Associate Professor where she directed the Pediatric Habilitative Audiology Program. She has also served as Visiting Professor in the Department of Communication Disorders on numerous occasions since 1986. During this period she completed post doctoral studies at James Madison University and UVA. Dr. Hasenstab joined Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems in 1986 to help initiate the Cochlear Implant Program. Currently she is a Full Professor and Director of Audiology and the Adult Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program. Since joining VCUHS, she has also completed advanced studies in the area of Aging and Gerontology.

Dr. Hasenstab's clinical and research interests, include cognitive and linguistic development in special pediatric populations, auditory processing deficits and cochlear implants. She has authored five books and 12 book chapters as well as numerous professional publications in the US and abroad. Dr. Hasenstab is a recognized speaker and presents regularly at professional meetings world wide and is a member of several professional organizations in the area of Otology/Audiology. She has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for these organizations. Dr. Hasenstab has also participated as the editorial staff and reviewer for professional publications in Audiology and Otolaryngology.
