Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (Chapter 30)

DESCRIPTION:

The Montgomery GI Bill ­ Active Duty, commonly known as Chapter 30, provides up to 36 months of education assistance based on your active duty service.  The assistance available under each category may vary depending on your particular situation and length of active duty.  This assistance may be used for degree and certificate programs at VCU.  Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, assistance is payable for 36 months of full-time attendance up to 10 years following your release from active duty.  For more details about this program, visit the GI Bill Web Site.

HOW TO APPLY:

If you are applying for VA education assistance for the first time,

  1. Attach a copy of your VCU admission letter to the application,

  2. Attach the Member Copy 4 of your DD Form 214 to the application,

  3. Submit the application packet to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.  Your enrollment will be certified and your application packet will be reviewed and forwarded to the regional Veterans Administration Office, and

  4. When you receive your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and award letter from the Veterans Administration, provide a copy of each to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.

If you have received VA education assistance at VCU previously,

  1. Submit the application to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.  Your enrollment will be certified and your application will be reviewed and forwarded to the regional Veterans Administration Office.

If you have received VA education assistance previously at another college or university but not at VCU,

  1. Attach a copy of your VCU admission letter to the application,

  2. Attach the Member Copy 4 of your DD Form 214 to the application,

  3. Submit the application packet to the VCU Veterans Affairs Office.  Your enrollment will be certified and your application packet will be reviewed and forwarded to the regional Veterans Administration Office, and
