How can I register?
If you are a continuing student on the Monroe Park Campus, you can register on-line, or come by the Founders Hall Student Services Center. School of Nursing and School of Allied Health students may also register at the on-line site. Other MCV Campus students can register at the Sanger Hall Student Services Center. New students must come to the Student Services Center for initial registration.

Where do I go to be advised?
Degree-seeking students should go to their adviser or department. If a student is an Undecided major, they should go to the College of Humanities and Sciences in the Hibbs Building, Room 205. Nondegree-seeking students should contact the College of Humanities and Sciences' College Success Program at 109 N. Harrison Street (804-828-1650).
How do I find out who my adviser is?
Students should go to the department of their majors to locate their advisers.
What is the cost of a class?
Full-time undergraduate and graduate students are charged a flat tuition fee per semester. Part-time undergraduate and graduate students are charged on a per-credit basis. The costs may vary each academic year and can be found on-line via the VCU Student Accounting Web site.
How many hours are considered full-time?
Undergraduate 12 credit hours

How many hours does the Graduate School require a student to be enrolled in to receive a graduate assistantship?
9 credit hours (fall/spring semesters)

How many hours do I need to be considered a Senior, Junior, etc.?
Full-time and part-time degree-seeking students, but not nondegree-seeking students, are classified by credits earned as follows:
Freshmen 1 to 23 credits
Sophomores 24 to 53 credits
Juniors 54 to 84 credits
Seniors 85 credits and more
Can MCV Campus students take courses on the Monroe Park Campus?
MCV Campus students are allowed to take one course on the Monroe Park Campus per semester. Further registration requires permission from the student's department chair.
How does the repeat course option work?
If a student repeats a course in which a "D" or "F" was earned on the first attempt, the student may request that only the better grade be counted in computing their cumulative GPA. This option can be used for the removal of only one grade of "D" or "F" and the subsequent credit hours per course from the computation of the cumulative GPA. However, the removed grade will still appear on the student's academic record but will not influence their GPA. This option is not available for graduate courses. A historical repeat form must be submitted to the Student Services Center in order to request the repeat course option.
Where do I get an override?
Overrides can be obtained from the course department chair and must be presented at the Student Services Center.
What is the difference between an override and an overload?
An override allows a student to bypass class size, class and major restrictions and time conflicts. Credits taken over the maximum load allowed per semester constitute an overload. Permission from the student's department is required to take an overload of classes. An Overload Permission Form must be presented to the Student Services Center before a student will be allowed to register for an overload.
How many hours can I take before having to submit an Overload Permission Form?
Undergraduate 19 credit hours
Graduate 15 credit hours
Special Nondegree Holder 11 credit hours
Special Degree Holder 19 credit hoursNo student may attempt more than 21 credit hours in any one semester.
How many hours can I take before I am charged a fee for an overload?

How long does the add/drop period last?
The add/drop period lasts one week, the first week of classes except in the summer. During the summer, the add/drop deadline is the day following the first day of a given class.
What are the different stages of withdrawal and how do they differ financially?
Specific refund information may be found on the VCU Student Accounting Web site.
How does dropping or withdrawing below full-time status affect my financial aid?
Students with less than full-time status may lose part of their financial aid package. An Monroe Park Campus student should go to the Office of Financial Aid, located at 901 W. Franklin St., for advising. Nursing, Allied Health Professions and Pharmacy students should go to the Sanger Hall Student Services Center. Medical students should go to Sanger Hall, Room 1-003. Dentistry students should speak with the Financial Aid counselor in the School of Dentistry's Dean's office.
Can a withdraw be changed to a drop?
In general the answer is NO. However, if a student never attended courses for which withdraws were awarded because the student failed to drop, and the student has supporting documentation, the Academic Regulations Appeals Committee will hear a petition.
How is a medical withdrawal processed?
During the semester, students should take a doctor's note to their dean's office explaining why they need to withdraw. After the semester, students will have to appeal to the Academic Regulations Appeals Committee.
I need to talk with someone about my deferment or to get a certification.
Students should go to either the Founders or Sanger Hall Student Services Centers for assistance.
