Perhaps you`ve been hearing that small group discussion is a great way to increase a student`s ability to problem-solve, critically think, and learn to work in teams. You`ve tried small group discussion; it didn`t go well and your students hated it. Effective group discussion just doesn`t happen; it takes coordination, guidance, and trouble-shooting from the instructor. Participants in this workshop will learn some techniques to help facilitate small group discussion, including the use of ground rules, icebreakers, peer evaluation, and managing “free-riders” and the “domineer.”
