This workshop can be viewed as a stand alone workshop, or the first of a three-part series—Developing a Teaching Philosophy, Developing a Learning-Centered Syllabus and Developing a Teaching Portfolio. This workshop will introduce participants to the nature and purposes of a teaching philosophy. In addition, participants will engage in a reflective activity that will help them think about the conditions that are conducive to learning, their role in creating these conditions, as well as the ideal relationship between teacher and student.
Outcomes:
By the end of this session, you should be able to
- Identify the key functions of a teaching philosophy.
- Identify a metaphor that captures the ideal relationship between teaching and learning.
- Identify how your teaching philosophy is manifest in your teaching practice.
- Reconcile the differences between your teaching philosophy and teaching practice.
