Britt Watwood comes to VCU after five years as Director of Online Learning at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Gwinnett Tech had the largest online program of any higher education institution in Georgia. Britt has taught online in a variety of learning management systems for the past eleven years. He brings both teaching and administrative experience from a community college in New York and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. His education doctorate is from Nebraska, while his education masters degree is from Old Dominion University. His bachelor degree is from the U.S. Naval Academy, and he retired from the Navy as a Commander after 22 years of service.
As Online Learning Specialist of CTE, he designs, develops and delivers workshops to introduce instructors to effective pedagogical practices that support teaching in blended or fully online learning environments. He guides faculty in the design or redesign and development of learning goals, content and instructional strategies for web enhanced, blended and fully on-line courses. He also provides consultations for schools, departments and faculty involved in online course development, as well as assisting faculty in developing reusable learning objects and integrating them into their courses. Finally, he researches and disseminates best practices in online teaching and learning.
