Opening Lectures

Participants should be able to:

  • Identify basic types of mathematical and computer simulation models based upon time and spatial scaling in biomedical and biological research.
  • Identify basic types of mathematical and computer simulation structures in biomedical and biological research.
  • List computer software available to carry out mathematical and computer simulation of biomedical and biological research problems.
  • Identify general modeling approaches in biomedical and biological research.
  • List computer software available to carry out mathematical and computer simulation of biomedical and biological research problems.

Workshop I

Participants in this workshop, upon leaving the series of 3 lectures, should be able to:

  • Identify the role of network modeling and pathway modeling and simulation in basic biomedical research.
  • Identify the role of mathematical and computation modeling of cellular processes in basic biomedical research systems.
  • Identify the role of mass action metabolic network modeling and simulation in basic biomedical research.
  • Describe software packages to facilitate research in the above areas.
  • Identify how these methods would apply to their own individual research efforts.
  • Apply these methods using a variety of relevant software packages.

Workshop II

Participants in this workshop, upon leaving the series of 3 lectures, should be able to:

  • Identify the role of disease network modeling and pathway modeling and simulation in clinical research.
  • Identify the role of mathematical and computation modeling of cellular processes in clinical research.
  • Identify the role of signal processing and dynamical systems analysis in clinical research.
  • List software packages to facilitate research in the above areas.
  • Identify how these methods would apply to their own individual research efforts.
  • Apply these methods using a variety of relevant software packages.
