The Center for the Study of Biological Complexity is pleased to announce that it is developing a collaborative relationship with the National Institutes of Health, Biomedical Computing Interest Group (BCIG). The mission of the NIH BCIG is to encourage, support and promote good and appropriate computing methodology and technology in all aspects of biomedical research, development, and patient care and technology sharing in support of the overall NIH mission. This is to be accomplished through lectures by experts, journal club meetings, sponsored classes, Internet dialog, social gatherings, and a general promotion of camaraderie among immediate and extended NIH biomedical research community members interested and engaged in computational aspects of modern medicine. Particular areas of interest include data visualization, data mining, machine learning, neural networks, receiver operating characteristic methodology, genetic algorithms, novel data models, novel automation systems, component software development, modern statistical methodology, data base registries, hospital and community health care information systems, and biomedical computing technology transfer.

As part of this collaboration, we will be jointly sponsoring seminars and bringing down their guest speakers as speakers here at VCU, when the occasion arises. The BCIG meets on the first, second, and third Thursday of every month at 3:00pm. BCIG Coffee/Brainstorming sessions are on the first Thursday of each month and meet at the Clinical Center (Building 10) Medical Board Room. Biomedical Informatics Tutorials (BITS) meet on the second Thursday of each month at NIH Building 40, Rooms 2011-2013. Seminars are held on the third Thursday of the month in the Clinical Center (Building 10) Medical Board Room. Members of the VCU community are welcome to attend any and all meetings.
