Sample Submission
Protein and peptide samples should be submitted as Coomassie Blue or Sypro Ruby stained gel bands or in solution. We do not recommend the use of silver staining at this time.

The Mass Spectrometry Analysis Request Form must be properly completed and Budget Code provided before any service can be rendered by the Resource.

• Optimum amounts of samples in solution depend on the mass spectrometric technique used, but should preferably be 1 µM or greater, in volatile/protic solvents. Preferred solvents include: MeOH, MeOH/H2O, ACN/H2O (All solvents in 0.1% formic or acetic acid). DMF, DMSO and large polar solvents are NOT suitable for mass spectrometric analyses.

• All samples should be free of non-volatile buffers, detergents, salts, urea, glycerol, chaps, etc. These impurities are detrimental to mass spectrometric analyses.

• Preferred buffers include: 0.1% formic acid, 0.1% acetic acid, 10mM ammonium acetate, 1-10mM ammonium formate, 0.1% TFA and 1-10mM ammonium bicarbonate. Less than 2% triethylamine is suitable for oligonucleotides.

Service Fees

Service Fees are charged for all mass spectrometry or other services rendered by the Resource. These charges are used to partly defray facility maintenance costs. Fees vary according to the type of service.
