Frequently Asked Questions

  • What are the dates for the VCU-HHMI Summer Scholars Program?

May 27, 2008 through July 22, 2008. All participants are required to conduct 8 weeks of research.

  • What are the requirements of the program?

All fellows are required to spend 8 weeks doing research, participating in seminars and lectures, and presenting their work at a closing symposium. Students are expected to commit full-time to the program, and cannot concurrently enroll in university classes.

  • What is the stipend?

A total of $3000 is provided for each student in three installments over the eight week program to provide for meals, entertainment and incidental expenses.

  • Is housing available?

Students are housed in Gladding Hall at no cost. Use of provided housing is strongly encouraged.

  • Is there a meal plan?

Common kitchen areas are available in the dormitories. The dining halls are open 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM Mon-Fri (not weekends or holidays), on the Monroe Park Campus. The hospital cafeteria is open on the medical campus. A variety of restaurants and grocery stores are available within walking distance of laboratories on the Monroe Park Campus, the MCV Campus and the Biotech Park.
