Research Activity of Prof. Fang-Sheng Wu

Our main research interest is to study how molecular chaperons in the endoplasmic reticulum of transgenic plants interact with foreign proteins, such as the immunoglobulins from mammalian cells. The experiments involve 1) Engineer different parts of gene cassettes (promoters, reporter genes, selection genes, target genes, terminators, signal peptides etc.) for expression in target cells (plant, mammalian, or bacterium) at specific locations (endoplasmic reticulum, outside of cells); 2) Development of a method to rapidly and efficiently carry out electroporation-mediated direct gene transfer of plant tissues; and 3). Tissue culture regeneration and analysis of transgenic plants.
