Dr. H. Thomas Karnes

Dr. H Thomas Karnes is Professor of Pharmaceutics, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. He holds degrees in Analytical Chemistry, Clinical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Karnes joined the faculty at VCU in 1984 and has worked in analytical research since that time. Dr. Karnes directs a graduate research group whose interests include the use of phosphorescence, chemiluminescence, mass spectroscopy, immunoreactors and laser induced luminescence for drug analysis. He has served on a variety of expert panels in the area of validation and control of bioanalytical methods. He is active in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) and is a former member of the United States Pharmacopeia, Committee of Revision. He has served as a consultant with several pharmaceutical companies and government agencies. Dr. Karnes has published more than 100 research papers during his career. He is an Editor for the Journal of Chromatography B, an AAPS Fellow and a recipient of the AAPS-APQ Research Achievement Award.
