The Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Greater Richmond Partnership, Inc. and Virginia Commonwealth University, is organizing the area's first Regional Economic Outlook Conference. The purpose of the conference is to bring useful economic forecasting information and expertise to the businesses that are affected by the economic climate of our region, the state, and the nation. This year's conference focuses on assessing the impact technology will have on the regional economy of Virginia, with special emphasis on Greater Richmond.
Economic forecasts for the nation and region will be delivered by economists from Crestar Bank and VCU's Virginia Center for Urban Development. Representatives from the Semiconductor Industry Association, Wall Street, and the President of Whiteoak Semiconductor, Wayne Nesbit, will be on hand to discuss how the semiconductor industry can be expected to influence Virginia's economy. In addition, local industry representatives Mark Bulriss, President of Allied Signal, and Robert T. Skunda, new President of the Virginia Biotechnology Park will be on hand to discuss the broader implications of the interface between the new technology industries and the economic conditions in our region. To top off the day, the new Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia has been invited to be the keynote speaker.
